Wenceslaus I was succeeded by Wenceslaus II in 1383. However, he decided to pledge the duchy to Jobst of Moravia in 1388 so that from that moment until 1457 there was both a duke of Luxembourg and a duke of Luxembourg by pledging. After the death of Emperor Sigismund, who was also Duke of Luxembourg, in 1437, the House of Luxembourg fell into a succession crisis due to a lack of male heirs. This led the Duchess to pledge Elisabeth of Görlitz in 1443 to the sale of Luxembourg to Philip the Good of Burgundy, so that Luxembourg became part of the Burgundian Netherlands.
